I think WordPress is one of the highest rated CMS in the open source industry.
However, it still lacks some integration with major application servers and industry recognized technologies.

Hi Mattias,

I agree with your proposition that WordPress will become the basis for some very cool major applications in the future. I personally have 3 projects in mind (one that is up and running... Sugardo.com ) that I'm basing on WordPress as a foundation.

One of the problems I encountered building out SugarDo was that WordPress loads nearly its entire application whenever wp-config.php is called. This is not very efficient.

SugarDo is a to-do list, and efficiency is key. I'm using MediaTemple as my host, and it is not always the fastest so that is frustrating. I eventually had to strip all of the SugarDo code out of the WordPress application and only utilize the WordPress authentication to check for a user ID.

I wish WordPress would provide a simple file that could check logged in status (and User ID) without having to use wp-config.php. When you do an Ajax call, you don't necessarily need the filters and loop and everything that gets loaded. You just want User ID. I had to build that from scratch and now it risks getting obsoleted by future WP enhancements.

So far, I've been able to upgrade SugarDo from 2.5 through 2.6.3 without any tweaks to my code...so fingers are crossed for 2.7 and beyond.

By the way, your theme is putting the sidebar down below the content in IE6. I'm a Mac user generally, using FF, so don't think I'm a dork for using IE6. That's what my company uses (8,000 employees). IE6 is still around, much to the chagrin of anyone who cracks code.

Thanks for the article.
Cheers,
Byron

Come to think of it, you're correct. There are more attributes and facets that professional bloggers/web administrators need and use instead of the ones available in the market...

But then again, have you considered using other blog and space clients? I heard movable type and typepad is awesome and a must for the pros--but don't take my word for it, I've never used it personally. Just heard the reviews from other people who use those two blog clients.
